Marriage Protection Amendment

The federal marriage amendment [FMA] is coming up for vote in the U.S. Senate this week. The admendment is to protect marriage (one man & one women) under the Constitution.

Chuck Colson, in his BreakPoint commentary today, gives argument to why we need a Constitiutional Admenment to protect marriage.

La Shawn Barber, a conservative Christian blogger, in her post today tells us why she does not support FMA.

My view, marriage amendment or not, God established the instution of marriage way back in the Garden of Eden. It doesn’t make any difference what man says marriage is. Yes, man can monkey around with God’s laws and change the definition of marraiag,  but all this will be to his own destruction. Maybe that’s what it will take to stop this nonsense.

More on Marriage

I’m a regular fan of La Shawn Barbers’s blog. From time to time she posts something of brilliance.

I believe her latest blog on Black Marriage is one of them. I’ve been extolling the virutes of  marriage in previous posts, but La Shawn provides a different spin by giving her own observations over the years.

Check it out!

Happiness at Home

This post is for the men out there. Ladies, you are welcome to read on and share this with a man.

Men! Do you want to make your home a happy one? Roll up your sleeves and get to work washing that pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen sink.

That’s right guy. Marital researcher John Gottman studied men who did housework and found them to not only be happier in their marriages, but also have lower heart rates and better health. In addition, these men were less stressed and less likely to be sick in the four years following the initial research meeting.

Don’t believe any self-respecting real man would do housework? Well check this out. In her column for the Wall Street Journal, Karlyn Bowman writes:

Before the vice president and his wife had the perks that come with the job, Dick Cheney did most of the cooking in the household, according to his wife, Lynn. He found it relaxing, she says.

There you see it guys I good ol’ black and white. Even a man’s man-hunter type, Dick Cheney, did common chores around house. So, what’s your excuse?

Men, the next time you see your wives struggle to keep up with all the housework, turn off thel game. Pull out that toilet bowl cleaner, pat yourselves on the back, and say, “I’ll be less lonely, less stressed, and less likely to be sick if I scrub this commode.” Your wives will give you a big smile and say, “Now there’s the man I’m glad I married!”

Restating the Obvious

I always get a kick when I run across a news article, commentary or study that “discovers” the connection between the Christian faith and the positive effects it has on people’s lives. This time, it’s the  recent study Analysis: Religion, Family, and the General Social Survey conducted by reaearchers Dr. Brad Wilcox and Dr. Byron Johnson. O

One of the studies “striking revelations” is that  those who do attend Church, especially weekly, are less likely to divorce. Instead they are more likely to report that their marriages are happy. Wow! Who would of thought it?

Here’s another brilliant finding brought out in the report, that church attendance and marriage declined together as divorce and illegitimacy rates rise. Very interesting, ya think?

And lastlly, one more little tibit, “72% of married men who attend weekly report that they are very happy in their marriages, compared to 60% of married men who don’t attend weekly. Likewise, 64% of married women who attend weekly report that they are very happy in their marriages, compared to 58% of married women who don’t attend weekly”.

What this data is saying is obvious to those of us who follow Christ. That the Wisdom of God is true. And when we follow it we live blessed, happy and fulfilled lives. God loves us and desires to bless us, strengthen us, and supply all it takes to make life worthwhile for us. When will the rest of the world wake up out of their stupor and also realize this?   Little cracks of light, like this study, offer us hope.
