NBC Drops "The Book of Daniel"

I took part of a boycott of my local NBC affiliate to protest the airing of their new show "The Book of Daniel" which, in my opinion ridiculed Christians. Well, it looks like our effort and those of others across the nation have gotten their message across to NBC.

Here's the story according to Citizen Link:

NBC has apparently made an abrupt decision to stop airing
a controversial TV show that some affiliates had refused
to carry and many advertisers had chosen to avoid.

"The Book of Daniel" featured a drug-addicted Episcopal
priest, his alcoholic wife and a laid-back, unconventional
"Jesus" who would show up in person to speak with the lead
character.

The series' creator and writer, Jack Kenny, made the
low-key announcement on a message board on the NBC Web
site, calling his show a "solid family drama."

"Unfortunately, due to many reasons, 'The Book of Daniel'
will no longer be aired on NBC on Friday nights," he
wrote. "I just wanted to say 'thank you' to all of you who
supported the show. There were many wonderful, talented
people who contributed to its success - and I do mean
success."

Donald Wildmon, chairman of the American Family
Association, said it came down to dollars.

"Had NBC not had to eat millions of dollars each time it
aired, NBC would have kept 'Daniel' alive," he said. "But
when the sponsors dropped the program, NBC decided it
didn't want to continue the fight."

Wildmon said the decision to drop the program demonstrates
the power of pro-family activism.

"This shows the average American that he doesn't have to
simply sit back and take the trash being offered on TV,
but he can get involved and fight back with his
pocketbook," he said. "We want to thank the 678,394
individuals who sent e-mails to NBC and the thousands who
called and e-mailed their local affiliates."

Kenny left open the possibility of finding a place to air
the episodes that have already been produced.

This is encouraging! It continues to strengthen my belief that if we stand up for our beliefs we will be heard. We are being a light in this darkened world!
